Our weekend started out with Laura's 4th of July program at school. We didn't really know what to expect -- we actually thought it was just a cookout. Much to our surprise, the kids stood on the stage of the sanctuary and sang a few songs. They all looked so cute in their matching shirts! We didn't think there was any way Laura would stay on stage once she saw us in the audience, but she did and even sang a few of the songs and did the hand motions. Here is a short video of their Fireworks song (sorry about the poor quality, we used our regular camera and the lighting was very poor in the church).
After a great lunch at the school, we hit the road and headed for the lake. Nana and Granddad surprised Laura with a new patriotic swimming suit that she loved and hardly took off the whole time we were there! She is really starting to like goofing off for the camera. I'm happy because now we get more pictures with a smiling Laura!
On Saturday evening, we took the boat over to watch some fireworks. The show was spectacular and Laura really enjoyed it. We weren't sure how she would do on the boat for so long waiting for the show to start, but we took her buckets, shovels, and a pile of rocks and she was as happy as a clam! I've never seen a kid have so much fun with rocks!
We came back home on Sunday morning so we could participate in our church's first baptism service held at the river. We had about 70 people come out to watch 4 members get baptized. I've never attended a river baptism, and I have to say it was one of the most moving experiences I've ever seen. After the service, we all stayed around to chat and eat lunch. Laura has a great time when we are with our new church -- there are 11 two-year olds at the church, so she has a large group of friends every time we are together!
And finally, Sunday night we went to the large fireworks display here in town with several other families. We forgot the camera this time around, but needless to say we all had a great time visiting, eating, listening to the band, and watching the fireworks.Hope you all had a great holiday weekend! And I promise to catch up on all our other posts in the next week or so:)
