Laura's Progress

We had a pretty uneventful day. We took a walk to the mall and had lunch at McDonald's. We got caught in a rainstorm coming home, but fortunately for Laura, we had the stroller cover so she stayed nice and dry! We were supposed to go out tonight to see the Christmas lights at Parque 93, but another storm rolled in and we thought it better to stay home. So instead of writing about our great Colombian adventures...I thought I would talk a little bit about Laura's progress sinc we got her last Monday. She is adjusting very well to having us as parents. The first week I think she spent most of it trying to figure out exactly who we were!! This week, we feel like she definitely recognizes us and responds to us. We thought last week she was a somber little girl. This week we have been getting lots of smiles, giggles, and laughs! When we lean over her crib in the mornings to get her out, we get a smile that just brightens our day. She is also making developmental progress. When we received her last week, she couldn't really sit up at all on her own. She also had a really hard time holding up her head during tummy time. The most noticable thing, though, was her lack of leg strength. It seemed like she was never held up and required to put weight on her legs. This week she has much better balance when she is sitting and can even sit on her own for a few seconds at a time. Tummy time is getting much better and she can even play a little bit with her head up. Her legs are getting stronger every day. We try to have her push against our hands when she is laying down and try to have her stand in our laps while we are playing. We have looked all over the city for a jumper or exersaucer to try to develop leg strength, but it doesn't seem like those are imported here. Oh well, we will keep working with her as best as we can until we get back to the states! If you have any other questions or want us to blog about a particular aspect of Colombia or adoption, just let us know! Also...I spent a lot of time before we became parents talking about how I wouldn't have a messy eater. The last picture just proves you can't control everything!!

I am so glad you told us about how she is adjusting to you. How are you adjusting to her? How have your feelings for her changed? Also, can you tell us what you know about what these babies lives are like in the orphanage before they are adopted.

It is so good to get the updates! It looks like you have already experienced so much in the short time you have been there. I love the pictures. It looks like Laura has already changed so much in the short time you have been with her.
Still praying for the work that needs to be done so you can come home!
Love,
Sarah
